Job Description:

NOC SERVICES

To monitor alarms on the live network and will report into a L2 and/or L3 Nokia resource who will act as the shift/NOC manager

Nokia L2/L3 will co-ordinate FLM and SPMS intervention

DWDM optical L1 NOC resources in Muscat

Should have OEM experience preferably on Nokia PSS 1830 optical hardware or/and other OEMs Ciena, infinera etc.

Nokia technology deployed 1830 PSS 16II and Optical GMPLS and NMS is Wave suite NOC

Training to be provided by Nokia if required but ideally the resources will have experience with Nokia products

Department: Network Operations Center (NOC)

Shift: 24x7 Rotational

Role Overview:

The L1 NOC Engineer will monitor, troubleshoot, and perform basic operations support for Nokia DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) networks. This role involves first-line fault detection, ticket creation, escalation to L2/L3 teams when necessary, and ensuring high network availability and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Network Monitoring:

Monitor alarms, events, and performance KPIs on Nokia DWDM equipment via NMS (Network Management Systems) like Nokia 1350 OMS.

Use monitoring tools to detect faults and degradations proactively.

Fault Management:

Perform initial diagnosis of DWDM network issues.

Log, categorize, and prioritize incidents and requests in the ticketing system (e.g., ServiceNow, Remedy).

Provide first-line troubleshooting (remote checking, basic config validations, link status checks).

Escalation and Coordination:

Escalate complex faults to L2/L3 or Field teams following defined SLA timelines.

Coordinate with field engineers and vendors for fault rectification activities.

Maintenance and Support:

Assist in planned maintenance windows (PMWs) and provide support for scheduled upgrades or patching activities.

Validate post-maintenance network health.

Reporting:

Prepare and share shift-wise handover reports and fault summary reports.

Update technical documentation and operational procedures when necessary.

Technical Skills:

Understanding of DWDM technologies (wavelengths, amplifiers, ROADMs, OTN concepts).

Hands-on with Nokia DWDM platforms like 1830 PSS (Photonic Service Switch).

Basic knowledge of network management tools (Nokia 1350 OMS, NFM-T).

Familiarity with optical performance metrics like OSNR, BER, PMD, etc.

Basic TCP/IP, Ethernet, and IP networking knowledge.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, or related field.

0–2 years of experience in NOC operations or optical network support. (preferably 12 months)

Nokia certifications (like NSP or 1830 PSS training) are a plus.

Soft Skills:

Strong communication and analytical skills.

Ability to work under pressure in a shift-based environment.

Problem-solving attitude and eagerness to learn.
