JOB OVERVIEW

As a WordPress Developer at Free Your Time, your key responsibilities include building and maintaining high-performance WordPress sites, creating custom themes and plugins, integrating APIs, and ensuring optimization for speed, scalability, and security. You will also collaborate with designers, marketers, and project stakeholders to deliver seamless digital experiences, and aligned with stakeholder's standards.

Ultimately, you should be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver high-quality work with minimal supervision.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

· Develop, customize, and maintain WordPress websites, themes, and plugins.

· Work on enterprise-level or high-traffic WordPress environments with a focus on scalability.

· Build responsive, accessible, and cross-browser-compatible front-end interfaces.

· Create and integrate REST APIs and GraphQL endpoints.

· Develop custom post types, shortcodes, and plugin functionality.

· Optimize site performance through caching, minification, and query optimization.

· Implement and maintain WordPress security best practices.

· Use version control systems (Git) and manage deployment workflows (CI/CD, Docker).

· Maintain clear technical documentation, including SOPs and code standards.

· Debug issues using tools such as WP-CLI, Xdebug, and Query Monitor.

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into technical solutions.

· Stay updated on the latest WordPress technologies, frameworks, and trends.

· Contribute to internal initiatives and related departmental efforts as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Experience

· 2-3 years of professional WordPress development experience.

· Proven record of building and maintaining custom WordPress sites.

· Experience with enterprise or high-traffic environments

Front-End Development

· Proficient in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), and jQuery.

· Familiarity with frameworks like React, , or

· Expertise in responsive design, WCAG accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility.

Back-End Development

· Strong command of PHP (OOP principles) and WordPress core architecture.

· Experience with custom plugins, custom post types, shortcodes, and API integrations.

· Familiarity with MySQL database design and optimization.

· Knowledge of WordPress hooks (actions & filters) and template hierarchy.

Performance & Security

· Expertise in WordPress optimization (caching, minification, query tuning).

· Strong understanding of security best practices, sanitization, and role management.

· Proficient with debugging tools such as Query Monitor, WP-CLI, and Xdebug

Development Workflow

· Experienced with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and containerized environments (Docker, LocalWP, DevKinsta).

· Familiar with Composer, npm, and automated testing tools (PHPUnit, Jest, Cypress).

Architecture & Advanced Concepts

· Understanding of headless WordPress setups , Gatsby).

· Experience with multisite and multilingual environments (WPML, Polylang).

· Familiarity with frameworks such as Bedrock, Sage, Timber, and ACF Pro.

· Skilled in custom Gutenberg block development using React.

Soft Skills
