About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality 3D models and fabrication drawings, supporting project delivery from concept through to manufacture. The role suits someone with a strong technical background, hands-on understanding of mechanical design principles, and a collaborative approach to working with production and engineering staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare 3D models and detailed fabrication drawings using Autodesk Inventor
  • Support design development for process and piping systems, tanks, and custom fabrication projects
  • Interpret and apply information from P&ID drawings and project documentation
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and sales teams to ensure practical, cost-effective design outcomes
  • Conduct design reviews and resolve technical issues during fabrication and installation
  • Maintain drawing standards and revision control through Autodesk Vault or equivalent systems
  • Assist with estimating, material selection, and production optimisation where required

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Mechanical Draftsperson
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor with solid understanding of Sheet Metal module advantageous
  • Strong technical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Problem-solving skills and collaborative mindset
  • Excellent time management and project delivery abilities
  • Experience in piping system design
  • Ability to interpret P&ID drawings
  • Ability to produce fabrication-ready drawings and BOMs for workshop manufacture – with a clear understanding of tolerances, weld preparation, and assembly sequencing.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with engineers, fabricators, and clients – ensuring clarity in design intent and efficient project coordination.

Desired Qualifications/Experience:

  • Previous experience and knowledge of industrial plastic manufacturing
  • CAM/CNC experience
  • Estimating/quoting experience
  • Experience with Autodesk Vault
  • Understanding of Australian Standards (e.g., AS/NZS 1657, AS/NZS 4766, AS 4041, or DVS guidelines) – ensuring designs comply with relevant mechanical, piping, and fabrication standards.
