Job Description:
The Merchants Data and Insights Specialist will play a critical role in turning merchant data into actionable insights that drive revenue growth, operational efficiency, and deeper merchant relationships. This role combines analytical skills with business acumen, ensuring that data supports strategic decision-making and daily execution across merchant onboarding, acceptance, reconciliation, and business development.
Key Responsibilities
Data Management & Analysis
- Collect, validate, and maintain accurate merchant-related data across various systems (e.g., onboarding, transaction, settlement, and acceptance databases).
- Analyze Business Volume Redeemed (BVR) trends, merchant performance, and transaction patterns to provide actionable insights.
- Design and automate dashboards/reports to track merchant KPIs, settlement accuracy, and issue resolution.
Insights & Strategy Support
- Generate merchant performance reports across all Merchant tiers highlighting growth opportunities and risks.
- Support the Merchants Director and Relationship Managers with data-driven recommendations for negotiations, campaigns, and retention strategies.
- Translate complex datasets into clear insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Operational Support
- Monitor and flag anomalies in transactions, merchant acceptance, and reconciliation.
- Work closely with Merchant Operations colleagues to identify recurring issues and recommend process improvements.
- Ensure data accuracy for regulatory, finance, and partner reporting requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Statistics, Economics, Data Analytics, or related field.
- Minimum of 2–3 years' experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or insights—preferably in payments, financial services, e-commerce, or merchant management.
- Proficiency in data tools (e.g., Excel/Google Sheets advanced functions, SQL, Power BI/Tableau, or similar).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to connect data trends to business outcomes.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting insights to senior management and external partners.
- High attention to detail, with strong sense of ownership over data accuracy and reporting timeliness.

- Process Orientation – identifies and recommends improvements in data collection, reconciliation, and reporting.
- Agility – comfortable in a lean team setup with shifting priorities and multiple stakeholders.
KPIs / Success Metrics
- Accuracy and timeliness of merchant data reporting (weekly/monthly/quarterly).
- Quality of insights leading to improved merchant performance (growth in BVR, retention, acceptance rate).
- Reduction of unresolved merchant data/acceptance issues through early identification.
- Satisfaction of internal stakeholders (Merchants team, Finance, Key Accounts).
