Job Summary:

The Inventory Accounting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the accurate recording, monitoring, and reporting of inventory-related transactions. This role ensures proper inventory valuation, reconciliations, and compliance with accounting standards, while coordinating with operations, purchasing, and warehouse teams to maintain optimal inventory control.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inventory Accounting & Reporting:
  • Supervise the recording of inventory transactions, adjustments, and reconciliations.
  • Ensure accurate valuation of inventory in accordance with accounting standards (e.g., FIFO, LIFO, or weighted average).
  • Prepare periodic inventory reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual inventory balances.
  • Monitor inventory-related accounts in the general ledger.
  • Inventory Reconciliation:
  • Conduct regular reconciliations between physical inventory counts and system records.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in inventory balances.
  • Coordinate with warehouse and operations teams for cycle counts and year-end physical inventories.
  • Process Improvement & Controls:
  • Develop and implement internal controls to prevent inventory loss, theft, or misstatement.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvements in inventory accounting procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and statutory requirements.
  • Team Supervision:
  • Lead, train, and mentor inventory accounting staff.
  • Allocate work, set performance targets, and monitor team productivity.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback.
  • Coordination & Communication:
  • Collaborate with Purchasing, Operations, and Finance teams to ensure timely and accurate inventory data.
  • Assist in audit processes, both internal and external, by providing inventory records and explanations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in inventory accounting or a related field, with supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of inventory management systems and accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Netsuite) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
