Job Summary:

The Billing Specialist is responsible for managing the end-to-end billing process to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant processing of patient and insurance charges. The role supports the organization's revenue cycle by verifying billing data, generating invoices, processing payments, and coordinating with patients, insurance providers, and internal teams to resolve discrepancies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Verify patient insurance status, coverage limits, copays, deductibles, specialist approvals, maternity benefits, and referral requirements.
  • Confirm authorizations for procedures such as sonograms, office procedures, and other covered services.
  • Ensure that all financial responsibility details are accurate prior to service to prevent claim denials.
  • Coordinate with clinical and administrative teams to clarify insurance details or resolve coverage issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of eligibility checks and authorization requests.
  • Uphold operational quality standards and contribute to team goals regarding accuracy and efficiency.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 1–3 years of experience in medical billing, payment posting, or insurance eligibility processes.
  • Knowledge of insurance verification, authorization, and claims processing.
  • Familiarity with billing software, EMR/EHR systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and coordination skills.
  • Understanding of HIPAA and healthcare data privacy standards.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Experience training or mentoring team members is an advantage.
