About the Role

Next Staffing Group is hiring a hands-on Design (Mechanical) Engineer for one of our clients. This candidate will develop parts and assemblies for food handling products and custom serving lines. You'll own designs end-to-end—from CAD modeling and drawings through fabrication support, installation, and follow-up—ensuring performance, safety, and customer satisfaction.

What You'll Do

  • Product & CAD Design: Develop part geometries, assemblies, drawings, and DXF programs using Solid Edge 3D CAD and AutoCAD.
  • Engineering Support: Troubleshoot and resolve design/engineering issues during production, installation, and operation.
  • Documentation Control: Maintain drawings, specs, and design records to reflect all modifications across the project lifecycle.
  • R&D: Research and develop food service equipment (e.g., refrigeration, heating elements) to improve performance and reliability.
  • Design Integrity: Apply GD&T, DFMA principles, and FEA for structural analysis; perform detailed root-cause analysis.
  • Customer & Contractor Interface: Translate product requirements, oversee installation processes, and resolve field issues.
  • BOM & Procurement Support: Create Bills of Materials (BOMs), identify long-lead items, and coordinate with Purchasing to meet deadlines.
  • Frame & Assembly Design: Design/refine frames to ensure precise fit and functionality within the overall system.
  • Thermal Calculations: Calculate cooling loads and size compressors for cold pans and refrigerators.
  • Electrical Coordination: Collaborate with MEP to determine electrical requirements; produce accurate electrical drawings for food bars.
  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure designs meet NSF food safety standards, electrical safety (UL) and other applicable codes.

What You'll Bring

  • Education & Experience (either of the following):
  • Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related field) and 3+ years related experience; or
  • Master's in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related field) and 1+ year related experience.
  • Required Expertise:
  • Design & development of food handling equipment or similar machinery
  • Proficiency with Solid Edge 3D CAD and AutoCAD
  • GD&T, DFMA, FEA (structural analysis), and root-cause analysis
  • R&D for food service equipment (refrigeration, heating elements, etc.)

Nice to Have

  • Experience coordinating with fabrication, field installers, and MEP teams
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution for commercial food equipment
  • Familiarity with documentation control systems and manufacturing processes

Work Setup & Travel

  • Fully Remote
  • Requires the use of time tracking software like Time Doctor.
  • Hours - 40 hours per week.
  • Flexible Schedule - must be available to communicate with the client during US Easter work hours on occasion. The client expects that most work can be done on your own schedule.
