Entry-level but skilled role within the kitchen brigade, responsible for preparing and presenting high-quality food in accordance with the restaurant or hotel's standards. This role supports senior chefs in all areas of kitchen operations, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and efficiency during food preparation and service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of food items as per recipes and quality standards.
  • Follow instructions from the Chef de Partie or Sous Chef regarding daily tasks and production needs.
  • Ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of all ingredients and products (FIFO).
  • Maintain a clean and sanitized work area at all times, adhering to food safety and hygiene standards (HACCP).
  • Handle kitchen equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Monitor portion and waste control to maintain profit margins.
  • Work as part of a team to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
  • Assist in receiving and storing deliveries, checking for quality and quantity.
  • Participate in training sessions and development programs as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by senior chefs or kitchen management.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proven experience in a professional kitchen environment (typically 1–2 years).
  • Formal culinary training or equivalent practical experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and best practices.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team player with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
  • Basic knife skills and familiarity with kitchen equipment.
  • Good communication and time management skills.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Must be able to lift and carry heavy kitchen items (up to 25kg).
  • Comfortable working in a hot, fast-paced kitchen environment.
