A Safety Officer for construction is responsible for promoting and ensuring a safe working environment for all individuals involved in a construction project. He play a crucial role in implementing safety policies, procedures, and practices to prevent accidents, injuries, and occupational hazards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement safety programs: Create and enforce safety policies, guidelines, and procedures specific to construction activities. Regularly review and update safety programs in compliance with DOLE and OSH regulations.
  • Conduct safety inspections: Inspect construction sites regularly to identify potential hazards, non-compliance with safety protocols, and unsafe practices. Analyze findings and make recommendations to address and eliminate risks.
  • Provide safety training: Organize and deliver safety training sessions to educate construction workers and staff on safe work practices, proper use of equipment, and emergency procedures. Ensure that all employees receive appropriate training, certifications, and licenses requires for their job roles.
  • Conduct safety meetings: Schedule and lead safety meetings with construction project teams to discuss safety concerns, incident reports, and provide guidance on avoiding accidents and injuries. Document meeting minutes and distribute them to relevant stakeholders.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents: Investigate and document any accidents, incidents, or near-misses that occur on construction sites. Identify the root causes and develop corrective actions to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
  • Maintain safety records Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, trainings, accidents, incidents, and safety-related documents. Ensure that all necessary reports and records are completed and submitted on time.
  • Collaborate with project managers Partner with project managers and other members of the project construction team to integrate safety protocols into the construction project plan. Provide safety-related advice and expertise to support decision-making processes.
  • Stay updated with safety regulations: Stay up-to-date with DOLE, OSH and other government agencies on safety regulations and standards applicable to the construction industry. Monitor industry trends and best practices to continuously improve safety programs and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Safety Officer in the construction industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction site safety protocols, regulations, best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to conduct safety trainings and presentations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organization skills.
  • Proficient in using safety equipment and tools, if applicable.
  • Familiarity with safety management software is a PLUS.
  • Certification in Construction Occupational Health and Safety (COSH) is required.
  • Pollution Control Training and/or accreditation is preferred and an advantage.
  • Able to conduct physical fitness to perform job duties on construction sites as NEEDED.
