Overview

As a Performance Tester, you will be instrumental in ensuring the scalability and reliability of systems by identifying performance bottlenecks before they impact users. Your proficiency with performance testing tools, strong analytical skills, and understanding of system architecture will help guide the creation of high-performing, resilient applications. Collaborating closely with SRE, development, and database teams, you will execute performance testing initiatives, conduct detailed bottleneck analysis, and recommend optimisation strategies. Success in this role will be defined by your ability to deliver clear and actionable performance insights, maintain high standards of testing quality, and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Performance Testing & Analysis
• Manage performance testing end-to-end: requirements gathering, test planning, script development, test data creation, execution, and comprehensive reporting.
• Design, execute, and analyse performance tests using tools such as Microfocus LoadRunner, JMeter, Gatling, and k6.
• Develop workload models based on production statistics to simulate peak traffic and edge cases.
• Collaborate with SRE teams to collect and analyse production environment statistics for accurate load profiles.
• Monitoring & Bottleneck Identification
• Conduct bottleneck analysis using APM platforms like Dynatrace and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Generate real-time performance metrics and actionable insights through advanced monitoring practices.
• Develop and maintain dashboards to track KPIs for proactive identification of performance issues.
• Defect Management & Reporting
• Track performance issues in Jira and ensure their resolution by providing detailed information to development teams.
• Document database-related performance defects, including query text, execution plan, and API context.
• Produce clear documentation for performance test results accessible to developers and SREs.
• Professional Conduct & Team Culture
• Maintain a collaborative and respectful demeanor in all interactions.
• Promote a culture of precision and technical excellence by sharing performance insights and feedback.
• Address performance challenges professionally, escalating issues with clear context and solutions.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Performance Testing Accuracy & Quality (40%)
• Achieve 90% accuracy in workload models and load patterns.
• Maintain test report approval ratings of 90% or higher.
• Implement at least one process improvement per quarter, reducing testing time by 10% or more.
• Bottleneck Identification & Analysis (35%)
• Ensure system performance metrics meet or exceed targets in 95% of releases.
• Reduce critical performance-related issues each release cycle.
• Provide detailed analysis for slow queries and bottlenecks for optimisation.
• Collaboration & Communication (25%)
• Document 80% of performance tests with accessible reports.
• Effectively log and track all issues in Jira.
• Receive positive collaboration feedback from at least two cross-functional team members per cycle.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
• 5+ years of performance engineering experience, with 3+ years in performance testing and analysis.
• Proficiency in Microfocus LoadRunner, JMeter, Gatling, and k6.
• Strong understanding of system architecture, networking, caching, distributed systems, and Kubernetes (k8s).
• Advanced skills with monitoring tools like Dynatrace, GCP Monitoring, or similar APM platforms.
• Knowledge of code profiling, optimisation principles, and database performance (query optimisation, indexing).
• Strong problem-solving skills under tight deadlines.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration experience.
• Preferred: Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Bash, JavaScript) and cloud environments.
