Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accountant with strong technical skills and the ability to work independently in a remote setup. This role requires tertiary qualifications in accounting, along with a willingness to learn and support routine as well as complex tasks.

Success in this position relies on the ability to manage work from start to finish with minimal supervision, demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, and maintain effective communication with supervisors and clients through phone, email, and online meetings. Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero or MYOB is essential.

We value professionals who can research, apply deductive reasoning, and ask the right questions to deliver high-quality outcomes.


Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Compliance

  • Obtain and review all required client information before starting work.
  • Manage monthly and quarterly bookkeeping, including transaction recording, general ledger maintenance, and balance sheet reconciliation.
  • Update and maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules.
  • Reconcile intercompany loans and related-party transactions.
  • Identify and resolve variances in accounts to support year-end financial reporting.
  • Prepare fringe benefits tax returns.
  • Calculate capital gains tax (CGT) on the disposal of shares, real estate, and other assets.
  • Prepare income tax returns for individuals, companies, and trusts.
  • Prepare and file Instalment Activity Statements, PAYG-I, and Business Activity Statements (BAS).

Payroll & Workpapers

  • Process payroll on a weekly, fortnightly, and monthly basis, including superannuation calculations.
  • Complete and review Xero Workpapers for annual compliance.
  • Compile electronic/manual working papers prior to review by senior staff.

Specialised Work

  • Prepare detailed working paper files for SMSFs, including investment, income, and CGT reconciliations (including Pension Phase).
  • Liaise with the ATO on behalf of clients regarding debts, lodgments, and payment plans.
  • Analyse financial statement results to identify errors, inconsistencies, or variances.
  • Complete tax returns in software and resolve discrepancies.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Work independently while providing regular updates to team leaders/managers.
  • Seek clarification on requirements before commencing work.
  • Prioritise workload effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Ensure all queries are fully addressed before senior review.
  • Consistently meet performance KPIs and budget targets.

Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant accounting experience (preferably with exposure to compliance and tax).
  • Proficiency in Xero (XPM, Workpapers, Blue) and MYOB.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setup.
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities.
