A CMOD (Content Manager OnDemand) Engineer's job is to install, configure, administer, and troubleshoot IBM's Content Manager OnDemand systems. This includes managing archives in both on-premises and cloud environments, performing migrations, fine-tuning performance, and developing automation scripts using languages like Perl or Bash. Some roles also involve providing technical support to end-users, debugging, and enhancing Java or C++ components of the CMOD system.

Core responsibilities

  • Installation and Configuration:
    Install and configure CMOD systems in distributed and highly available environments.
  • Administration and Maintenance:
    Administer CMOD to ensure production readiness, including performing preventative maintenance and monitoring system health.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution:
    Analyze logs, resolve issues, and provide advanced technical support to customers.
  • Migration:
    Facilitate the migration of CMOD archive data across different platforms, operating systems, and data centers.
  • Performance Tuning:
    Fine-tune CMOD configurations for optimal performance and reliability.
  • Automation and Scripting:
    Develop scripts (e.g., Perl, Bash) and automation solutions (e.g., Ansible) to streamline tasks.
  • Documentation:
    Create and maintain runbooks, knowledge base articles, and technical documentation.

Additional duties (depending on the specific role)

  • Software Development:
    For some roles, this can include developing and maintaining Java applications (e.g., using Spring Boot or JEE) and implementing architectural patterns like Microservices.
  • Support:
    Provide direct technical support to customers, including problem determination and source identification.
  • Mentorship:
    Train and mentor other team members.
  • Stakeholder Management:
    Interact with cross-functional teams and manage requests and priorities.

Required skills

  • Strong knowledge of IBM Content Manager OnDemand (CMOD) and IBM Content Navigator (ICN).
  • Experience with installation, configuration, and support in various environments (on-premise, cloud, distributed).
  • Scripting skills (Perl, Bash).
  • Experience with automation tools (e.g., Ansible).
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in system administration, monitoring, and performance tuning.
  • For some development-focused roles: Java, C++, Spring MVC, Spring Boot, and JEE.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
