Job Title: Software Security Specialist

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Software Security Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our security engineering group, you will play a vital role in protecting our open-source software and user base from emerging threats.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze, fix, and test vulnerabilities in open-source packages
  • Maintain awareness of vulnerabilities in the Ubuntu ecosystem as they are discovered, researched, and fixed, leveraging internal tools
  • Collaborate with other teams in the Ubuntu community and upstream developers, as needed, to exchange or develop vulnerability patches and ensure that Ubuntu includes the most robust security features
  • Audit source code for vulnerabilities
  • Develop features and tools to help teams strengthen the security of their products and contribute to the overall security of Ubuntu
Requirements
  • Thorough understanding of common categories of security vulnerabilities and techniques for fixing them
  • Familiarity with coordinated disclosure practices
  • Familiarity with open-source development tools and methodologies
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages, including C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, PHP, or JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Excellent logic, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the team and Ubuntu community members
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
