As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of open-source software and operating systems.

We are seeking exceptional Rust engineers to drive the adoption of this exciting language into our offerings. Our goal is to rethink the foundations of future Linux systems, from system firmware and embedded software to the kernel and input handling, all the way to the desktop.

This is an opportunity for engineers of all levels of seniority, across various teams at Canonical. We invite applications from exceptional software engineers who prefer to work in Rust.

You will be responsible for designing and implementing well-tested and well-documented software in Rust, advocating for Rust adoption in upstream projects, identifying projects that could benefit from Rust adoption, debugging and fixing issues encountered by users, and contributing to our engineering process through code and architectural reviews.

To succeed in this role, you will require:

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Experience building, deploying, and operating distributed systems and APIs
  • The drive and track record to consistently exceed expectations
  • Strong organisational skills, self-motivation, and the ability to deliver to deadlines

Candidates with experience developing for Ubuntu, LXD, MicroK8s, SnapD, IoT, Juju, Ubuntu Core, Ubuntu Pro, performance engineering, and security will be highly valued.
