Job Title: Financial Operations Lead

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Operations Lead to oversee our end-to-end accounting functions, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting. This key role involves managing multi-state sales & use tax compliance, general ledger maintenance, and US GAAP financial statement preparation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including journal entries, accruals, amortizations, and reconciliations.
  • Maintain the general ledger, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and proper cutoff.
  • Prepare US GAAP financial statements and management reports (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
  • Manage accounts receivable and revenue processes, including billing, cash application, aging, and DSO tracking.
  • Oversee accounts payable, vendor setup, 3-way match, payment runs, and DPO tracking.
  • Reconcile bank and credit card accounts.
  • Maintain fixed assets and leases, including capitalization policy and depreciation schedules.
  • Support revenue recognition and inventory/project accounting as applicable.
Avalara Ownership:
  • Administer Avalara AvaTax, including product/service tax code mapping, nexus settings, and jurisdiction updates.
  • Monitor economic nexus and manage state/city/county registrations.
  • Drive monthly sales/use tax close, reconciling Avalara liability reports to the GL and investigating variances.
  • File timely and accurate returns through Avalara Returns and manage notices and resolve exceptions.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • 5-8+ years of progressive accounting experience with end-to-end ownership of the close.
  • Avalara experience, including AvaTax and Returns.
  • Demonstrated multi-state sales & use tax compliance and nexus management.
  • Strong command of US GAAP, including ASC 606 revenue recognition.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including lookups, pivot tables, and reconciliations.
  • Experience integrating Avalara with ERP/e-commerce/billing systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • CPA certification or international equivalent.
  • Industry experience in e-commerce, SaaS, or multi-channel retail.
  • ERP expertise, including NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, or Sage Intacct.
  • Experience with BI/reporting tools, such as Power BI or Tableau.
