Medical Documentation Specialist

A medical scribe is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for documenting patient interactions in real-time. This ensures accurate and detailed records, allowing healthcare professionals to focus on delivering quality patient care.

This role involves working closely with providers to capture key information, including patient histories, physical exam findings, diagnostic impressions, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions. The ability to maintain clear and concise documentation is essential for effective communication between healthcare teams.

  • Documenting patient encounters using Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) such as Epic, AthenaNet/AthenaHealth, Cerner, or NextGen
  • Capturing patient data accurately, including medical histories, physical exam findings, and treatment plans
  • Maintaining charts, medication lists, allergies, and problem lists up-to-date
  • Assisting with administrative tasks, such as templating notes and visit summaries
  • Reviewing prior records to provide context for current visits
  • Ensuring all documentation is HIPAA-compliant and meets clinical and legal standards

Requirements for this position include excellent verbal and written English communication skills, at least 1-2 years of experience as a medical scribe or in a clinical documentation role, and familiarity with medical terminologies and clinical workflows. A healthcare-related degree is highly preferred, along with proficiency in Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office. Experience with EMRs and HIPAA Certification are also beneficial.
