Construction Accountant Job Summary

As a construction accountant, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, performing job costing and tracking expenses by project, processing accounts payable and receivable, invoices, and vendor payments.

Reconciling bank accounts, credit cards, and vendor statements is also a key part of this role. You will prepare financial reports including P&L, cash flow, and balance sheets to help inform business decisions.

Additionally, you will assist with estimating by reviewing plans, material take-offs, and subcontractor bids, and support project managers with budget tracking and cost-to-complete analysis. Your strong Excel skills and attention to detail will be valuable assets in managing payroll and ensuring compliance with construction labor laws.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate financial records using accounting software.
  • Perform job costing and track expenses by project.
  • Process accounts payable and receivable, invoices, and vendor payments.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and vendor statements.
  • Prepare financial reports including P&L, cash flow, and balance sheets.

Requirements:

  • Bookkeeping experience preferably in construction.
  • Knowledge of construction accounting and job costing is required.
  • Experience with estimating processes, bids, or take-offs is a strong plus.
  • Proficient in accounting software such as QuickBooks or Sage.
  • Strong Excel and data entry skills.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
