Accounting Manager Role Summary

The role of Accounting Manager is a critical position within our organization, responsible for overseeing the financial accounting and transaction processing functions. This individual will play a key part in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records, as well as providing insights and recommendations to support informed business decisions.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Financial Close Process Oversight: Lead the month-end close process, ensuring timely completion and adherence to established checklists.
  • Profit & Loss Review: Review final profit & loss (P&L) scrub and approve journal entries prepared by staff.
  • Balance Sheet Accuracy: Ensure the accuracy of the balance sheet workbook, including spot-checking source document filing.
  • Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
  • Variance Analysis: Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial reports through variance analysis.
  • Staff Support: Review staff-prepared financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Financial Consistency: Ensure financial accuracy and consistency across all reports and KPIs.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow Management:
  • Budgeting Leadership: Lead budgeting and forecasting efforts for real estate projects, including capital expenditures and operating costs.
  • Cash Flow Forecasts: Update and maintain cash flow forecasts regularly.
Tax Compliance & Regulatory Filings:
  • Sales Tax Preparation: Prepare and submit sales tax returns with controller approval.
  • Tax Filing Coordination: Coordinate, review, and submit annual 1099s.
  • Personal Property Tax Filings: Support the preparation and submission of personal property tax filings, reviewed by the controller.
  • Sales Tax Payments: Calculate monthly sales tax payments and submit them for controller review and remittance.
Accounting Operations & Oversight:
  • Recurring Processes: Manage recurring weekly accounting processes as outlined by the controller.
  • Customer Invoicing: Review customer invoicing, vendor bills, and process payments.
  • Payroll Approval: Approve and submit payroll.
  • Chart of Accounts Review: Perform chart of accounts reviews and reclassify contributions/distributions to retained earnings as needed.
  • Junior Staff Supervision: Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, fostering development in real estate accounting practices.
Process Improvement & Client Advisory:
  • Process Efficiency Identification: Identify opportunities for process efficiencies and provide actionable recommendations to clients.
  • Financial Integrity: Maintain strong financial integrity, proactively troubleshoot issues, and ensure compliance with accounting standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
This ideal candidate will possess 5+ years of accounting experience in financial close, variance analysis, and payroll processing, with a strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Advanced Excel skills.
