Network Operations Specialist

A network operations specialist plays a vital role in ensuring maximum service availability and performance.

  • They must ensure that all network services are properly provisioned and configured on core equipment.
  • The specialist is also responsible for providing support services to other technical teams as needed.

In this fast-paced, global team environment, effective communication with technical support, service provisioning, and sales teams is essential.

Closer collaboration with the engineering team requires a good understanding of systems and networks. Diligence, attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization are key skills.

This position involves building, installing, and configuring network equipment, conducting hardware audits, and maintaining technical documentation and processes.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years' experience in network operations and advanced skills in TCP/IP routing protocols, WAN technologies, routing, switching, and firewalls.

Additionally, they should be familiar with VOIP, VPNs, security protocols, SD-WAN deployment, Linux OS/networking, and device monitoring and management tools.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

This role offers opportunities for skill development through training and research. As expertise grows, the engineer may join our 24x7 call-out rotation supporting our core network and services.

Responsibilities:

  1. Manage and maintain monitoring systems.
  2. Perform fault troubleshooting, problem isolation, and corrective actions or escalate as needed.
  3. Coordinate with third-party suppliers for troubleshooting, upgrades, and network changes.
  4. Provision and configure core network devices and tools.
  5. Build, install, and configure network equipment.
  6. Conduct hardware, serial number, security, and configuration audits.
  7. Develop custom monitoring plugins and configure graphing tools.
  8. Maintain technical documentation and processes.
  9. Enhance skills in network and system administration.
  10. Serve as Tier 3 escalation point for core network and services.
  11. Participate in a 24x7 call-out rotation if required.
