Global Volunteer Engagement Specialist

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and engaging current and new volunteers within a portfolio of assigned countries, as well as coordinating international volunteers joining medical programs hosted within those countries.

This role requires strategic thinking, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will have experience in volunteer coordination, customer service, or project management and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Volunteer Management: Coordinate with host country staff and program operations to determine volunteer team roles needed, plan for local and international volunteer identification and placement, and ensure all documentation is in order.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Develop and maintain relationships with partner organizations to offer international volunteer positions in equitable ways and support their volunteer engagement goals.
  • Logistics and Preparation: Coordinate all aspects of volunteer placement, international flight logistics, and volunteer preparation with appropriate volunteer management staff in the volunteer's home country, program host country, and travel support staff.
  • Credentialing and Support: Ensure all volunteers are properly credentialed in assigned countries by verifying documentation and requirements are met.
  • Evaluation and Reporting: Upload and assess volunteer evaluations, escalate priority issues/comments to relevant staff, and provide status updates and summary reports on volunteer placement and team composition to RVM and Program Operations staff.
Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in business, program management, project management, non-profit studies, international studies, communications, or a related field.
  • Experience: 2+ years of volunteer coordination, customer service, or project management experience preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Verbal and Written Communication: Highly capable and proactive verbal and written communicator in multicultural contexts.
    • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural competency to build strong relationships with global stakeholders and volunteers.
    • Autonomy and Initiative: Ability to perform with high levels of autonomy and initiative.
    • English Language Skills: Strong English language skills, written and spoken.
    • Analytical and Strategic Thinking: Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
    • Travel and Flexibility: Willingness to travel internationally and domestically up to 10% of the year as required and work outside standard business hours as needed.
