Job Summary

The Construction Estimator plays a pivotal role in reviewing construction plans, conducting quantity takeoffs, and creating detailed project estimates. This estimate is a critical component in defining the project management team's scope of work and controlling construction costs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect and organize project information to identify missing or conflicting scope details related to successful constructability.
  • Conduct quantity takeoffs for commercial construction projects, including demolition, asphalt, concrete, masonry, steel, framing, doors, glass storefronts, HVAC ducts, plumbing, and electrical components.
  • Assist with construction document reviews, redlining, and requests for information.
  • Utilize On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, or similar software to perform digital takeoffs and highlight the scope of work.
  • Estimate material, labor, and equipment costs required to complete the project using Microsoft Excel and existing cost information.
  • Build relationships and maintain open communication with the project management team.
  • Collaborate with the team to review and finalize takeoffs.
  • Evolve into inputting takeoffs into an estimate in Excel or similar software for use in buyout and execution phases.

Qualifications

  • PREFERRED: Degree in construction, engineering, business management, finance, accounting, or similar fields, but not required based on experience and aptitude.
  • Knowledge of construction components and how they are constructed is essential.
  • Commercial construction experience across multiple trades is preferred.
  • Experience working with U.S.-based clients is a plus.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, Planswift, and electronic takeoff software is a plus.
  • Ability to understand and learn/interpret construction drawings, specifications, and renderings is crucial.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce accurate work is necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis in Excel and electronic takeoff software, is required.
  • Ability to create and input data into spreadsheets and good understanding of data analysis is essential.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are necessary.
