Job Overview

The Construction Estimator is a key role in our team, responsible for reviewing plans and creating detailed estimates of construction projects. This critical position defines the scope of work for project managers and controls construction costs.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Gather and organize project information to ensure accurate estimate preparation.
  2. Identify missing or conflicting scope details for successful project constructability.
  3. Perform quantity takeoffs for commercial construction projects, including demolition, asphalt, curb, fine grading, concrete, masonry, steel, framing, glass storefronts, HVAC ducts, plumbing, electrical components, and electrical conduit/wire.
  4. Assist with construction document/plan/spec review, redlining, and requests for information using industry-standard software such as On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, and similar tools.
  5. Estimate material, labor, and equipment required for project completion using Microsoft Excel and existing cost information.
  6. Maintain open communication with the project management team to ensure seamless collaboration.
  7. Review and finalize takeoffs with the team to guarantee accuracy.
  8. Input takeoffs into an estimate in Excel or similar software for buyout and execution phases.

Qualifications:

  1. Preferred degree in construction, engineering, business management, finance, accounting, or related fields.
  2. Knowledge of construction components and their construction is essential for success in this role.
  3. Commercial construction experience across multiple trades is highly valued.
  4. Experience working with U.S.-based clients is preferred but not required.
  5. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, Planswift, and other electronic takeoff software is necessary.
  6. Ability to understand and learn construction drawings, specifications, and renderings quickly.
  7. Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce accurate work are crucial in this role.
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and electronic takeoff software is expected.
  9. Good understanding of data analysis and ability to create and input data into spreadsheets efficiently.
  10. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this position.
  11. Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively is necessary.
  12. Effective communication skills are vital for collaboration and teamwork.
