Lead Accountant Job Description

Role: Lead Accountant (Sole Contributor)

Location: Fully Remote, Working with Global Clients

Engagement: Full-time, 40hrs per week

Reporting to: CEO and Senior Management Team

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Reporting and Compliance
  • Prepare monthly financial reports for clients including profit and loss statements and balance sheets.
  • Manage year-end accounts preparation, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with relevant regulations.
Bookkeeping Operations and Client Communication
  • Take ownership of all bookkeeping tasks from your client portfolio, ensuring timely and accurate completion every month.
  • Communicate with HMRC if necessary, providing clear explanations and resolving any issues promptly.
Process Improvement and Documentation
  • Identify inefficiencies in workflows and recommend practical improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation of bookkeeping processes to support scalability and team alignment.
Reporting and Insight
  • Provide regular updates on client account performance and operational progress to senior management.
  • Highlight recurring challenges or risks, offering strategic solutions to mitigate them.
Leadership and Training
  • Act as a mentor and guide for junior team members, providing training and support to develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Collaborate with senior management to identify training needs and process gaps within the team.

Requirements:

  1. Professional Qualifications and Skills
  • Qualified Accountant (e.g. ACA, ACCA) or equivalent.
  • Proficient in end-to-end payroll, ensuring accurate calculations and timely submissions.
  • Experience with bookkeeping and accounting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks).

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team.
