About Outpatient ED Medical Coding Role

The Outpatient ED Medical Coder is a vital position within our healthcare organization, responsible for ensuring precise and efficient coding of medical records.

This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Coding and abstracting data from medical records with accuracy and efficiency
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of coding regulations and guidelines

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurate ICD-10 code assignment for outpatient diagnoses and procedures
  • Conduct thorough reviews of medical records to ensure completeness
  • Collaboration with healthcare teams to resolve coding discrepancies

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Active local RN license for accurate record coding
  • Current CPC/COC/CCS/CIC coding certification for standard compliance
  • Minimum 1 year experience in Outpatient ED Coding for effective skill utilization
  • Knowledge transfer expertise utilizing Kirkpatrick Learning Effectiveness model; teaching credentials or certification beneficial
  • Minimum B2 language band score for clear communication
  • At least 2 years recent clinical/hospital experience for contextual understanding
