Key Responsibilities
Communication:
Receive and transmit information via phone, radio, and dispatch software to connect with drivers, emergency responders, and service personnel.
Coordination:
Coordinate the daily movement of field units, such as drivers or technicians, by assigning tasks and directing them to appropriate locations.
Scheduling & Routing:
Create and manage schedules and routes, using mapping software to find the most efficient paths and providing real-time updates to field units.
Monitoring:
Utilize GPS and fleet tracking systems to monitor the location and status of field units, ensuring timely arrivals or deliveries.
Problem-Solving:
Respond to emergency calls and address unexpected situations, such as delays or cancellations, adjusting plans and providing necessary resources.
Record-Keeping:
Maintain accurate logs of calls, assignments, and work progress, documenting critical information for tracking and reporting.
Essential Skills
Communication:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey instructions clearly and concisely.
Multitasking:
The ability to handle multiple incoming calls, tasks, and data streams simultaneously without losing focus.
Problem-Solving:
Critical thinking and sound judgment to make rapid decisions in high-pressure situations.
Technical Proficiency:
Competency with multi-line phone systems, radio communication, computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems, and GPS/tracking software.
Geographic Knowledge:
Familiarity with local and regional geographic areas to assist in routing and location identification.
Work Environment
Dispatchers work in busy call center environments, often facing high-stress situations and working varied schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
The role requires strong resilience, an ability to manage emotional distress, and the capacity to maintain focus and accuracy.
