The Vessel Accounting Supervisor leads a team of accountants and is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with customer expectations and company standards. This role oversees the financial closing process, controls accounting activities, and drives process improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Team Leadership & Development:

  • Manage a team of vessel accountants, providing training, mentorship, and feedback to ensure high-quality financial reporting.
  • Ensure that the team adheres to company standards and customer reporting requirements.
  • Conduct performance reviews and develop individual training plans for team members.

2. Financial Closing & Reporting:

  • Ensure the timely and accurate completion of the financial closing process, reviewing all key deliverables.
  • Support accountants in preparing monthly financial reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct monthly internal meetings to review financial results, variances, and necessary adjustments.

3. Accounting Control & Compliance:

  • Oversee accounting activities, reconciliations, and monthly closing to maintain financial integrity.
  • Implement internal controls and ensure adherence to accounting policies and international financial standards.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial records.

4. Continuous Improvement & Efficiency:

  • Develop strategies to streamline accounting processes, improve reporting accuracy, and enhance team efficiency.
  • Identify areas for automation and process improvements within the accounting function.

Key Competencies & Skills:

  • Leadership & Team Management – Ability to coach, train, and develop a high-performing accounting team.
  • Financial Acumen & Accuracy – Strong knowledge of vessel accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Problem-Solving & Decision-Making – Proactive approach to resolving accounting discrepancies and improving processes.
  • Time Management & Organization – Ability to manage multiple projects and ensure timely reporting.
  • Technical Proficiency – Experience with accounting software (SAP, Oracle, or maritime-specific ERP systems) and Excel.
  • Project Management – Experience handling vessel transitions, drydocking projects, and financial handovers.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA, ACCA, or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in vessel accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of financial controls, reconciliations, and reporting in the maritime industry.
