The role is primarily responsible for conducting detailed insurance reviews and overseeing all insurance-related activities on the commercial mortgage portfolio of Manulife. This role is part of the servicing duties that ensure collateral property is protected from potential loss by specific hazards or liability exposures.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Collection of Insurance Policies and Certificates:
  • Contact Borrowers/Insurance brokers/Correspondents via email or fax to collect up-to-date insurance policies for the entire mortgage portfolio and address inadequate coverage and lapses of insurance coverage.
  • Follow up and escalate unresponsive borrowers to the Toronto business unit.
Insurance Policies and Certificates Review:
  • Conduct thorough reviews of insurance policies and certificates to ensure validity, accuracy, and compliance with mortgage terms.
  • Send non-compliance notices and ensure revised certificates are provided to meet requirements to avoid lapses or inadequate coverage.
  • Escalate to Toronto business unit if there are pushbacks, waiver requests, or insurance nearing expiry (within 5 days).
  • Input and update insurance certificate information in the enterprise/loan management system (for new and renewal policies).
Reports Generation:
  • Generate and review reports on a bi-monthly, monthly, and quarterly basis, including insurance expiration, past due follow-up, borrower name changes, escrow, watchlist, carrier ratings, flood activity, no insurance, and significant insurance events. These reports support insurance collection, review, and monitoring to prevent lapses.
Others:
  • Perform peer quality assurance reviews.
  • Assist the Toronto business unit with mortgage servicing tasks, inquiries, and projects as needed.
  • Contribute to projects aimed at improving efficiency for the Mortgage Servicing Team.
  • Assist in system upgrade testing.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or related fields.
  • At least 1 year of experience in real estate finance, credit analysis, or mortgage environments.
  • Experience with risk management, property and casualty, and financial lines insurance and claims is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including intermediate to advanced Excel proficiency and experience with database applications.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong customer service skills, including rapport building and empathy.
  • Ability to understand and act on problem statements, interpret customer information, and demonstrate problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, be well-organized, and adapt to changing environments.
  • Good organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
