Research & development manager: Job summary: To orchestrate all research activities for furniture design and manufacturing; develop a knowledge baser, apply the acquired. Knowledge to the development of new and existing company furniture. Products; validate set standards and improve the manufacturing process. To ensure company’s products are constantly competitive. Job responsibilities: • Attend and actively participate in the scheduled manufacturing committee meetings • Conduct regular weekly meetings with the R&D team. • Initiate, direct and conduct researches in: • Furniture design trends; home sizes, mechanisms or mechanical discoveries applicable to furniture’s; metal, raw materials, competitive product makes and best practice furniture manufacturing processes. • Study results and discuss any applicable new or surface knowledge. • Set regular meeting with the Design consultant and designers to discuss and be trained on trend • Review existing products being manufactured and ensure that all item/s have a technical manufacturing manual which includes the technical drawing, cutting plan and estimated machine and labor time for each process. • From time to time with the cooperative efforts of the production head validate and observe the estimated time and motion study to update the machine and labor cost estimate. • Observe specific item/s production process, discuss and recommend improvements. • Coordinate with Purchasing to constantly be updated on materials for furniture manufacturing and their costs. • Coordinate with Quality Manager for product design to ensure that the quality checks in process and final product are included in manufacturing manual plus item produced is within quality standards set. • Study existing item/s or product/s design and • the identified competing product/s that is lower priced. Determine the differences, make a report plus recommend design or material changes to lower cost. • Communicate and coordinate with the Marketing and sales department for ideas and details of consumer preferences plus the possible the specifications of item/s, and possible size of target market for specific item/s. • Coordinate with the Production dept. And the quality dept. For the probability of manufacturing particular design of made to order product/s. • Evaluate construction of produced or imported item/s that becomes defective to determine if manufacturing or design is the cause. • Other activities that the CEO may assign Job qualifications: • Graduate of industrial designer, architecture or interior designer • Minimum of 10 years in design/manufacturing or related industries • Creative, resourceful, self-motivated, can draw manually or digitally, attention to details • Systematic, team player, good leadership skills, able to coach/mentor, monitor and enhance skills. • With good time management • Knowledgeable in Cadd, excel words and likes • Able to transfer knowledge to the team
