A survey manager is responsible for overseeing a site and directing crews on survey plans associated with engineering and construction projects.

Duties and Responsibilities of Survey Manager:
  1. Responsible for the planning and directing of professional land surveying.
  2. Responsible for general methods and procedures and exercises considerable independent judgment to select the proper courses of action.
  3. Responsible for administering policies, procedures, and regulations of a departmental survey program, and supervisory techniques, personnel policies, and procedures.
  4. Selects and assigns staff, ensuring equal employment opportunity in hiring and promotion.
  5. Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees.
  6. Evaluates and verifies employee performance through the review of completed work assignments and work techniques.
  7. Identifies staff development and training needs and ensures that training is obtained.
  8. Maintains records, prepares reports, and composes correspondence relative to the work.
  9. Directs the preparation of survey maps, plans, and exhibits.
  10. Provides surveying expertise to special surveying problems.
  11. Reports facts and conclusions reached from the results of surveys by correspondence or conferences with the requesting agencies.
  12. Meets with planning and design engineers and architects to determine pertinent information required for project plans.
  13. Solves field problems of survey crews by providing needed information from the central office.
  14. Handles correspondence directed to the surveying unit and has liaison with other surveyors and officials of various other agencies.
  15. Participates as an instructor in training sessions for other divisions.
  16. Performs preparatory research for upcoming surveys.
  17. May occasionally perform any task assigned to subordinate staff, consistent with any licensing or certification requirements.
  18. Reports directly to Assistant PD/ PM and DPM.
  19. Other related tasks that may be assigned.
