The Head of Human Resource will be a strategic partner for the organization and for the people who work for it. This person will oversee and be responsible for all facets of HR including employee relations, business planning and budget development of HR programs and plan, direct, and manage all human resource initiatives, such as recruitment, compensation, benefits, training, team building, and leadership.

Functionally, the Head of HR will be expected to provide strategic leadership, operational management, stakeholder engagement, talent development, change management, and ethical leadership.

Strategic leadership

A head of human resources is responsible for aligning the HR vision and goals with the overall business strategy and objectives. They work closely with the CEO and other senior leaders to define and communicate the organizational culture, values, and mission. They also develop and implement HR policies and programs that support the growth, development, and performance of the workforce. A head of human resources also monitors the external trends and challenges that affect the HR industry and the organization, and adapts the HR strategy accordingly.

Operational management

A head of human resources is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the HR function, which may include recruitment, compensation and benefits, training and development, employee relations, diversity and inclusion, compliance, and health and safety. They lead and supervise a team of HR professionals and specialists, and ensure that they have the resources, tools, and guidance they need to perform their tasks effectively and efficiently. They also oversee the HR budget, systems, and processes, and ensure that they are aligned with the best practices and standards.

Stakeholder engagement

A head of human resources is responsible for engaging with various internal and external stakeholders, such as employees, managers, board members, shareholders, customers, suppliers, regulators, and media. They act as a spokesperson and advocate for the HR function, and communicate its value and impact to the organization. They also build and maintain positive and collaborative relationships with the stakeholders, and address their needs, expectations, and feedback. They also represent the organization in various HR forums, networks, and associations, and promote its reputation and brand.

Talent development

A head of human resources is responsible for developing the talent pipeline and succession plan for the organization. They identify the current and future skills and competencies that are required for the organization to achieve its goals, and design and implement initiatives to attract, retain, and develop the best talent. They also foster a culture of learning and innovation, and encourage the employees to pursue their personal and professional growth. They also mentor and coach the HR team and other leaders, and help them to develop their potential and capabilities.

Change management

A head of human resources is responsible for leading and facilitating the change management process in the organization. They anticipate and assess the impact of the changes on the people, processes, and culture, and develop and execute plans to manage the transition smoothly and effectively. They also communicate the vision, purpose, and benefits of the changes to the stakeholders, and address their concerns and resistance. They also support and empower the employees to adapt to the changes, and monitor and evaluate the outcomes and feedback.

Ethical leadership

A head of human resources is responsible for demonstrating and promoting ethical leadership in the organization. They uphold and enforce the code of conduct, values, and policies that guide the behavior and decisions of the employees and the organization. They also ensure that the HR function complies with the legal and regulatory requirements and standards that apply to the industry and the organization. They also foster a culture of trust, respect, and integrity, and handle any ethical issues or dilemmas that may arise in a fair and transparent manner.
