Job Summary:

The CAD Operator/Draftsman is responsible for creating detailed technical drawings and plans using computer-aided design (CAD) software. These drawings are used by engineers, architects, and construction teams to build structures, products, or systems. The role requires accuracy, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of design and engineering principles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare detailed 2D and 3D technical drawings and plans based on rough sketches, specifications, and calculations.
  • Revise drawings as needed based on feedback from engineers, architects, or project managers.
  • Maintain organized drawing files and documentation in accordance with project and company standards.
  • Collaborate with the design and engineering team to ensure drawings meet technical and functional requirements.
  • Use CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, etc.) to develop layouts, sections, elevations, and other views.
  • Convert hand-drawn sketches or notes into CAD documents.
  • Ensure drawings comply with industry standards, codes, and client specifications.
  • Perform site visits or field measurements when required.
  • Assist in preparing bills of materials, quantity take-offs, and other project documentation.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or technical certificate required; an associate degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a CAD Operator/Draftsman or similar role.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD is typically essential; knowledge of Revit, SketchUp, or SolidWorks is a plus).
  • Strong knowledge of drafting techniques, engineering, and architectural terminology.
  • Familiarity with construction or manufacturing processes and standards.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team.

Preferred Skills (Optional):

  • Experience in a specific industry (e.g., civil, mechanical, electrical, architectural).
  • Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM).
  • Familiarity with local and international design codes.

Working Conditions:

  • Office-based with possible site visits.
  • Use of computers and CAD software for extended periods.
  • May involve working on multiple projects simultaneously under deadlines.
