Server Administrator

- Administer operating systems including performance monitoring, operations planning, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance
- Work inside the ticketing system to ensure issues are handled in a timely manner
- Work with Active Directory and Group Policy
- Troubleshoot hardware, software and operating systems
- Utilize procedures and standards to ensure operational consistency on a global basis and update documentation as required
- Maintain records on repairs, downtime, and configuration changes
- Participate in planning and implementation of OS changes including version upgrades, and updates
- Assist in disaster recovery and business continuity planning and support
- Participate in capacity planning including forecasting of needs for future infrastructure related purchases
- Perform statistical reporting, recording and maintenance of software, and licensing inventory
- Monitor system performance and tune performance as necessary
- Participate in on-call rotation to provide off-hours support and maintenance globally
- Work within a complex mixed environment with on premise systems and cloud (Azure) based

Competencies, abilities, and skills required:
- Experience with Windows, Unix and Linux-based server environments.
- VMWare certification a plus, experience required.
- Experience in cloud deployment and administration (AWS/Azure/GCP)
- Possesses a "security first" mindset.
- Experience with replication, distribution, availability, recovery, and deployment.
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
- Availability for after hours and weekend work as needed.
- Experience with PCI and Sarbanes Oxley compliance.
- Will be required to participate in an on-call rotation.
Work Relationships (guests, partners, team members):
- Work with a group of software engineers, operations team (hardware support, Unix admins, DBA, network team), help desk, and project managers. Must maintain relationships with any United employee who uses or has a need for existing or new technology. Also must maintain relations with various software and hardware vendors as well as United business partners.
Education & knowledge required:
An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or related field or two (2) years of related experience.
Related experience in server administration and networking.
Scope of Authority & Decision Making:
Independent judgment, creative thinking, and analytical problem solving are needed in order to discover ways to solve business problems, improve business processes, and address infrastructure challenges. Must be able to manage priorities in an ever changing environment. This position may be required to work independently and as a member of other projects simultaneously while supporting day to day break-fix incidents.

System downtime causes business downtime. Vulnerable systems that are unpatched or insecure can result in a loss of business and/or compliance.
