DATA ANALYST

SHIFT: NIGHT / GRAVEYARD PHT

TYPE: FULL TIME; INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR

NOTE: AN ASSESSMENT WILL BE SENT TO SHORTLISTED CANDIDATES.

We are seeking a highly organized, proactive, and detail-oriented Data Analyst that will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and verifying employee timekeeping records to ensure full compliance with California meal and rest break laws. This role identifies violations, audits timecard entries, communicates discrepancies, and works closely with HR, Payroll, and Operations to improve compliance and reduce labor-law risk.

Key Responsibilities:

Time Keeping and Compliance Auditing

  • Review daily and weekly timecards to identify missed, late, or shortened meal breaks in accordance with the California Labor Code.
  • Audit clock-in/clock-out patterns for accuracy, completeness, and potential edits that affect break compliance.
  • Verify whether premium pay (meal/rest break penalties) should be issued and flag discrepancies for processing.
  • Monitor trends in repeat violations and escalate systemic issues to management.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate records of all meal break audits, findings, and corrective actions.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly compliance reports for HR and management.
  • Document policy exceptions, employee attestation forms, and any edits requiring approval.

Communication & Support

  • Collaborate with supervisors and employees to correct inaccurate time entries and validate break exceptions.
  • Send daily email reminders of forms missing or potential violations.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with Excel writing formulas to process large amounts of data.
  • Experience with timekeeping or payroll systems (e.g., 7Shifts, ADP, Kronos, UKG, Paycom, Workday, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of California meal and rest break regulations, including:
  • All meal breaks should be at least 30 minutes.
  • First meal break by 4 hours and 59 minutes when working more than 6 hours.
  • Second meal break by 9 hours and 59 minutes when working more than 12 hours.
  • 30-minute uninterrupted break requirements
  • Premium pay rules for non-compliance
  • Strong analytical and auditing skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in HR, Payroll, Compliance, or Labor Relations.
  • Experience auditing or reviewing employee time logs.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to work with computers and perform repetitive data audits for extended periods.
  • Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Work from Home Requirements (Must have before the start date)

  • Internet Connection : Min of 25mbps internet connection speed AND a backup internet connection (before start date)
  • Computer/Laptop: The contractor must have a working computer from home with Dual Monitors
  • Noise Canceling Headset (Plantronics)
  • Dedicated Home Office - Contractors are required to have a dedicated home office free from noise and distractions.
  • Must be comfortable working with a Monitoring Software (for payroll and timekeeping purposes only)
  • Webcam - Contractors must have a working webcam
