Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accounting & Tax Manager with strong Australian tax knowledge to support a growing accounting practice. This role is ideal for someone who is proactive, highly organised, and capable of managing diverse accounting, bookkeeping, taxation, and SMSF workflows in a fully remote environment.

You'll play a key role in maintaining efficiency across the business, managing accounting inboxes, preparing tax returns, completing bookkeeping tasks, and supporting SMSF compliance work. This position is suited for someone who thrives in a structured environment, handles competing priorities effectively, and consistently delivers accurate and timely output.

  • Compensation: 2000 AUD/month (paid bi-monthly)
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Brisbane Time (40 hrs/week)
  • Location: Remote

Key Responsibilities:

Email & Workflow Management

  • Manage and action accounting inbox emails daily
  • Prioritise tasks and maintain an organised workflow
  • Track client follow-ups in Karbon to prevent delays
  • Ensure all client requests and outstanding items are documented

Tax Preparation

  • Prepare individual tax returns
  • Prepare basic company tax returns and financial statements
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance with Australian tax requirements
  • Identify missing information and follow up with clients promptly

Bookkeeping

  • Complete bookkeeping tasks in Xero Blue
  • Reconcile transactions, resolve discrepancies, correct coding errors
  • Prepare and finalise BAS
  • Maintain accurate job notes within Karbon/Xero XPM

SMSF Workflow Support

  • Manage SMSF jobs and tasks in BGL SF360
  • Collect required documentation ahead of deadlines
  • Assist with general compliance-related processes
  • Track SMSF workflow progress to avoid overdue items

Qualifications:

  • Strong Australian tax knowledge (required)
  • Experience using Xero XPM & Xero Blue (required)
  • Experience with Karbon (preferred)
  • SMSF experience (required)
  • Proficient in BGL SF360 (preferred)
  • Ability to prepare individual tax returns (required)
  • Ability to prepare basic company returns & financial statements
  • Bookkeeping experience (required)
  • Ability to prepare BAS (required)
  • Highly organised and detail-oriented
  • Strong time-management and prioritisation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
