Project Manager – Substation

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Planning & Execution
  • Lead the execution of the substation and transmission line (grid connection) scope from design to commissioning.
  • Develop and implement detailed project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
  • Ensure project milestones are met within cost, time, safety, and quality parameters.
  • Technical & Regulatory Compliance
  • Review of approved engineering designs, specifications, and construction drawings for substations and transmission lines.
  • Ensure compliance with grid codes, IEC/IEEE standards, NESC/NEC, NGCP (or relevant utility) requirements, and local regulations.
  • Oversee factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), and commissioning activities.
  • Stakeholder Coordination
  • Act as the primary interface with the grid operator, EPC contractors, consultants, and equipment suppliers.
  • Coordinate with internal project teams to align the grid connection scope with overall solar plant delivery.
  • Manage utility approvals, permits, and interconnection agreements.
  • Contract & Risk Management
  • Oversee contract administration for EPC and subcontractors in the grid connection scope.
  • Monitor and manage project risks, claims, and change orders.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) standards at all project sites.
  • Reporting & Leadership
  • Report project progress, risks, and mitigations to senior management and project sponsors.
  • Lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams, ensuring effective collaboration and performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Licensed Electrical Engineer (REE/PEE)
  • Minimum 5–10 years of experience in managing substation and transmission line projects, preferably in renewable energy or power generation.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • High-voltage substations (69kV–230kV) and transmission line design & construction.
  • Protection, control, and SCADA systems.
  • Utility/grid interconnection processes.
  • Proven experience in EPC project management, contract administration, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work at project sites as required.

Key Competencies

  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams under tight schedules.
  • Knowledge of international and local electrical codes and standards (IEC, IEEE, ANSI, NGCP Grid Code, etc.).
  • Commercial awareness with strong negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and sustainability principles.
