Real Estate or E-Commerce Bookkeeper Job Description:

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Real Estate Bookkeeper to manage financial transactions, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with accounting standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of real estate or e-commerce accounting, including property management, accounts payable and receivable, and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Record Keeping & Reporting

• Maintain and update financial records for real estate transactions, including property purchases, sales, leases, and management fees.

• Prepare and review financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.

• Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts.

• Track rental income and expenses for multiple properties.

• Ensure accurate classification of transactions in accounting software.

2. Accounts Payable & Receivable

• Manage accounts payable by processing invoices, cutting checks, and ensuring timely payments.

• Track and collect accounts receivable, including rent payments and late fees.

• Reconcile tenant accounts and address discrepancies.

• Communicate with clients and property managers regarding financial matters.

3. Budgeting & Cash Flow Management

• Assist in developing and maintaining property budgets.

• Monitor cash flow to ensure sufficient funds for operational needs.

• Identify discrepancies and report any financial irregularities.

4. Tax Preparation & Compliance

• Prepare financial records for tax filings and audits.

• Assist with property tax, sales tax, and other real estate-related tax filings.

• Ensure compliance with financial regulations and accounting standards.

5. Software & System Management

• Utilize accounting software such as QuickBooks (heavy Quickbooks Online experience is preferred), AppFolio, Yardi, or Buildium.

• Maintain and update digital records of financial transactions.

• Improve financial systems and processes for efficiency.

Qualifications & Skills

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred).

• Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in the real estate industry.

• Software Proficiency: QuickBooks, Yardi, AppFolio, Buildium, or similar property management software.

• Skills: Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset, excellent organizational skills, and ability to multitask.

• Knowledge of Real Estate Accounting: Familiarity with property management, rent rolls, security deposits, and escrow accounts.

• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for tenant and vendor interactions.

• Compliance: Understanding of real estate financial regulations, tax laws, and reporting requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with multi-property bookkeeping.

• Knowledge of GAAP and real estate tax regulations.

• Previous work with property management firms, real estate investors, or brokerage firms.
