Job Description
As an Assistant Manager, you'll oversee complex accounting assignments, lead a high-performing team, and deliver expert business and tax services for global clients. You'll balance technical excellence with leadership-driving quality, mentoring staff, and maintaining client satisfaction across multiple engagements.

The Qualifications We Seek
- CA or CPA qualified
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years in a business services environment
- Proven ability to manage and complete multiple assignments independently

- Authority to control and run a wide range of assignments for a portfolio of clients
- Authority to provide business/tax advice to clients within assigned engagements

Your Daily Tasks
Purpose/Objectives of Position
- Control and run more complex assignments for a portfolio of clients with some Manager, Director, or Partner assistance to ensure the successful completion of concurrent assignments (reporting to a Manager or directly to Partners).
- Within controlled assignments, manage all subordinates according to the firm's technical and administrative standards.
- Utilize team skills effectively to complete concurrent assignments.
- Develop staff to elevate team competence and measurable productivity.
- Assist Managers, Directors, and Partners with the provision of services to existing and new clients.
Working Relationships

- Reporting, guidance, instructions, advice, feedback, and mentoring
- Perform all aspects of staff management and development autonomously
- Build effective working relationships and provide general support for productivity
- Communicate with external parties to serve client needs autonomously
Technical
- Control and run assigned engagements, ensuring successful completion of concurrent assignments by utilizing technical competence and required resources.
- Activities include:
- Prepare income tax returns for individuals, companies, partnerships, trusts, and superfunds.
- Prepare tax assessment letters, ATO correspondence, and other task-specific documentation.
- Prepare and reconcile accounts of all types (basic, intermediate, advanced).
- Prepare BAS/IAS reports.
- Process journals, CU forms, ATO registration matters, and ASIC documents.
- Prepare PAYG payment summaries for clients.
- Perform general spreadsheet and word processing tasks.
- Maintain company secretarial matters.
- Ensure all review points are dealt with appropriately.
- Keep Managers/Partners informed of discussions with and comments from clients.
- Conduct research on accounting and taxation issues.
- Complete file documentation and finalization.
- Provide payroll functions and advice to clients.
- Deliver written business and tax advice to clients.
- Liaise with other expert groups to serve client needs.
- Provide and review detailed written tax advice (e.g., client information gathering, legislative research, drafting memos, and partner authorization) on areas such as:
- Division 7A and private company loans
- Small business CGT concessions
- Trusts and Capital Gains Tax
- Fringe Benefits Tax
- Salary Packaging
- Tax Consolidations
- Dividend Imputation Regime
- Structuring (Mergers & Acquisitions)
- GST and Stamp Duty
- International Tax (e.g., transfer pricing, thin capitalization)
- Assist with firm review processes ensuring clients meet ongoing tax obligations.
- Support review of tax provision calculations for audit clients.

- Accuracy of work papers (cross-referencing compliance)
- Timely completion of deliverables
- Budget performance and file accuracy
Process Management/Administration
- Complete all standard and additional administrative tasks autonomously and promptly.
- Activities include:
- Record daily and weekly timesheets.
- Manage billing processes (e.g., recommend write-offs/write-ups, review WIP, draft bills, prepare and reconcile invoices).
- Create and review engagement budgets (analyze prior-year data, time, and fees).
- Review and approve budget plans.
- Discuss client debtor issues and provide explanations or compromises.
- Assist in preparing tenders and quotations.

- Review deliverables (letters, work papers, tax returns, BAS/IAS reports) and provide feedback.
- Conduct performance reviews and job-end assessments.
- Address and resolve staff conflicts or performance issues.
- Monitor time spent on jobs and communicate budget concerns to higher management.
- Review timesheet completion, staff workflow, and workload balance.
- Participate in recruitment and selection processes.

- Participate in initiatives that promote the firm's services and reputation.

- Support conversion of marketing activities into client engagements.
- Draft articles and technical write-ups for firm publications.
