An HR Manager with Japanese bilingual skills is a human resources professional who can fluently communicate in both Japanese and (usually) English, making them valuable for companies operating in Japan, or Japanese companies with international branches.
They are responsible for overseeing HR functions such as recruitment, employee relations, compliance, training, and cultural adaptation between Japanese and non-Japanese staff.
Key ResponsibilitiesRecruitment & Talent Acquisition
- Source, interview, and onboard talent, ensuring both local and Japanese market fit.
- Coordinate with Japanese stakeholders or HQ on hiring needs.
Employee Relations & Communication
- Serve as a cultural and language bridge between Japanese executives and local staff.
- Resolve workplace issues, mediate conflicts, and maintain positive employee relations.
HR Policy & Compliance
- Implement HR policies that align with both Japanese labor laws and local legal requirements.
- Ensure the company remains compliant with employment regulations in both countries.
Performance Management
- Guide the performance appraisal process.
- Provide bilingual feedback and coaching.
Cross-Cultural Management
- Help teams navigate cultural nuances to avoid misunderstandings.
- Promote an inclusive environment that respects Japanese business etiquette and local practices.
- Fluent (or near-native) proficiency in Japanese and English (spoken and written).
- Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field.
- Strong understanding of Japanese corporate culture and local HR practices.
- Experience in a multinational or Japanese company setting.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders across cultures.
- Certification in HR (like SHRM, PHR) is a plus.
