Food Server Job Description

Position Title: Food Server

Department: Operations

Reports To: Restaurant Manager / Shift Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary:

A Food Server is responsible for ensuring guests have a positive dining experience by providing excellent customer service, taking accurate food and drink orders, delivering meals in a timely manner, and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment. Food Servers must be knowledgeable about the menu and capable of suggesting dishes and drinks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet guests promptly and warmly.
  • Present menus, explain specials, and answer questions about menu items.
  • Take food and beverage orders accurately.
  • Enter orders into the POS system and ensure they are communicated to the kitchen correctly.
  • Deliver food and drinks in a timely and professional manner.
  • Check in with guests to ensure satisfaction and address any concerns.
  • Clear plates, utensils, and used glasses from tables.
  • Process payments accurately and return change or receipts.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dining area.
  • Follow all food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Collaborate with other restaurant staff and kitchen team members.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior experience in food service or hospitality is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Basic math skills for handling payments and orders.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift trays of food and beverages
  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching.

Work Environment:

  • Restaurant, cafe, or banquet setting.
  • Fast-paced, customer-facing environment.

Job Type: Full-time
