The Occupational Health Physician is responsible for overseeing the health and well-being of all employees, with a specific focus on managing occupational health risks, promoting wellness programs, and ensuring a safe work environment. This role requires a blend of medical expertise and a strong understanding of the unique challenges and regulations of the hospitality and gaming industries. The Occupational Health Physician will collaborate with management, the safety and security department, and HR to promote a healthy workforce and reduce work-related injuries or illnesses.
Job Description:
Employee Health Management:
- Provide medical assessments for employees, including pre-employment health evaluations, return-to-work assessments, and ongoing health evaluations for those in high-risk positions.
- Diagnose and treat work-related injuries or illnesses, offering immediate care or referring employees to specialists as necessary.
- Monitor and manage occupational health risks, including exposure to hazardous substances, repetitive motion injuries, and physical or mental stressors specific to hotel and casino operations.
- Develop and maintain a system for tracking employee injuries and illnesses, ensuring compliance with workplace safety regulations.
Health and Safety Programs:
- Design, implement, and monitor wellness programs that promote employee health, reduce absenteeism, and encourage healthy behaviors.
- Conduct health and safety risk assessments, especially for employees working in areas with heightened risks, such as food service, casino floors, and maintenance.
- Provide training and education on health-related topics, such as ergonomics, stress management, substance abuse prevention, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Compliance & Regulations:
- Ensure compliance with local occupational health regulations
- Prepare and maintain reports related to occupational health and safety, including injury logs, accident investigations, and regulatory inspections.
- Advise management on the development of policies and procedures to maintain a healthy and safe workplace in compliance with industry regulations.
Collaborative Health Services:
- Work closely with the Safety & Security team to manage workplace incidents, handle employee medical leave, and support employees' mental and physical health needs.
- Provide medical consultation and support for employee wellness initiatives, such as smoking cessation programs, fitness challenges, and stress reduction programs.
- Conduct post-incident health assessments to evaluate the impact of accidents or incidents and develop plans for recovery and reintegration.
Emergency Response & First Aid:
- Serve as the lead medical responder in case of workplace emergencies, ensuring swift and appropriate medical care is provided.
- Provide first aid and emergency medical care to employees as necessary, and coordinate with external healthcare providers for follow-up treatment if needed.
- Ensure that emergency medical protocols and first-aid procedures are regularly updated, practiced, and compliant with workplace safety standards.
Health Promotion & Employee Engagement:
- Foster a proactive approach to employee well-being by identifying potential health risks before they become significant issues.
- Organize and oversee health screenings (e.g., flu shots, blood pressure checks) and health education workshops for employees.
- Promote mental health awareness, encourage healthy work-life balance, and reduce employee stress and burnout, particularly in a high-stress environment like a hotel and casino.
Data Collection & Reporting:
- Track and analyze trends in employee health, including common illnesses, injuries, and occupational hazards.
- Maintain confidential employee medical records in compliance with the company policies, and the National Privacy Commission.
- Prepare reports for the management regarding the overall health of the workforce, patterns in absenteeism, and areas for improvement in occupational health practices.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Medical degree from an accredited institution.
- Board certification in Occupational Medicine or a related specialty preferred.
- A valid and active medical license to practice
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Occupational Health Physician, preferably in a hospitality, casino, or high-traffic environment.
- Experience managing work-related injuries, health screenings, and wellness programs is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with the specific health and safety challenges in the hotel and casino industries (e.g., food safety, employee fatigue, repetitive motion injuries, mental health concerns) is a plus.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of occupational health laws, regulations, and safety standards
- Excellent diagnostic skills with the ability to address both acute and chronic health issues that may arise in the workplace.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to educate and engage employees on health and safety issues.
- Ability to work collaboratively with to develop and execute health initiatives.
- Organizational skills to maintain accurate records, manage multiple tasks, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
