Universal Robina Corporation Sugar and Renewables SONEDCO is looking for a Plant Logistics Manager.
What are the Roles and Responsibilities?
The Plant Logistics Manager oversees the entire warehousing, materials control, and logistics operations of the sugar and renewables plant. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and timely storage, handling, issuance, and distribution of materials, supplies, and finished products. The PLD Manager is responsible for maintaining inventory accuracy, optimizing material flow from receipt to dispatch, and ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and environmental standards while driving process improvements and operational excellence.
1. Operational Oversight
- Manage end-to-end warehousing, materials control, and logistics operations, including receiving, inspection, storage, issuance, order-picking, loading, and dispatch of materials and finished goods.
- Oversee materials control activities such as monitoring stock levels, ensuring accurate recording of material movements, and initiating timely replenishment to prevent production delays.
- Ensure optimal storage conditions to preserve the quality and integrity of products, raw materials, and supplies in line with good sugar warehousing and materials management practices.
- Monitor and control inventory accuracy through regular cycle counts, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Develops and implement a variety of warehousing and product-safety related policies and procedures.
- Oversee logistics scheduling, route planning, and dispatch to ensure timely deliveries and optimized transport utilization.
2. Quality, Safety, and Compliance
- Enforce strict adherence to GMP, food safety, environmental, and regulatory standards across warehouse, materials control, and logistics activities.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to maintain compliance with hygiene, pest control, and security protocols.
- Implement risk management measures to protect goods and materials against loss, theft, contamination, and deterioration.
3. Team Leadership and Development
- Lead warehouse supervisors, materials controllers, attendants, and logistics staff, promoting a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability.
- Facilitate training on materials handling, quality control, safety protocols, and warehouse systems.
- Conduct performance reviews and implement individual development plans for staff.
4. Process Optimization
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to increase operational efficiency, strengthen materials control, and reduce costs.
- Utilize technology (e.g., SAP, WMS) for real-time inventory tracking, materials requisition monitoring, and performance reporting.
- Drive sustainability initiatives to reduce waste, optimize resource use, and minimize environmental impact.
5. Budget and Resource Management
- Develop and manage the department budget for manpower, equipment, and facility upkeep.
- Ensure preventive maintenance of material-handling equipment, storage facilities, and logistics assets.
Qualifications:
1. Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Logistics Management, Supply Chain Management, Accounting or Business Administration, or other relevant 4-year courses.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in warehouse, materials control, and logistics management, preferably in the sugar and renewables industry, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
2. Technical Expertise:
- Strong knowledge of inventory management, materials control principles, warehouse operations, and logistics optimization.
- Proficiency in warehouse management systems, SAP, and related software.
- Understanding of quality control standards, GMP, and regulatory requirements for sugar warehousing and materials handling.
3. Leadership and Communication Skills:
- Proven ability to lead diverse teams and promote operational excellence.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills for cross-functional coordination.
4. Problem-Solving and Decision-Making:
- Analytical skills for identifying operational bottlenecks and implementing effective solutions.
- Ability to make data-driven decisions under pressure.
5. Safety and Compliance Focus
- In-depth knowledge of occupational safety standards, food safety regulations, and environmental compliance.
- Commitment to fostering a safe and secure work environment.
6. Continuous Improvement Mindset
- Track record of implementing process improvement and sustainability initiatives in materials control, warehouse, and logistics operations.
