Job Purpose

A general ledger staff maintains the GL (General Ledger) balance, subsidiary ledger and other necessary supporting schedules and ensure the accuracy of the account balances at the end of the closing period. A review of the account analysis is also done to check accounting entries (manual or interface) including correct account code, description and cost centre code and any error should be corrected by preparation of adjusting journal entry. The general ledger staff also account for variance against last year performance and budget.

Accounting Assistant- General Ledger objectives:

Ensure correctness of accounting entries and accuracy of account balances.

Ensure completeness of subsidiary ledgers and other supporting schedules.

Identify variance against last year performance and budget.

Ensure compliance in GL manual

Duties and Responsibilities

-Responsible for ensuring the accuracy of balances of the assigned accounts.

-Make necessary coordination with regional accounting, departments or sections to ensure accurate recording of all transactions and resolution of reconciling items.

-Preparation of subsidiary ledgers and other necessary supporting schedules.

-Preparation of schedules and documents necessary for internal and external audit.

-Ensure familiarity and compliance in GL manual.

-Handles fix asset accounting.

-Ensure correctness in interface entries related to new and existing products or services and perform reconciliation to ensure proper recording of all accounts.

-Compliance in the required month end and year end closing.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Business Accountancy, preferably CPA

  2. Minimum of 2 year of relevant professional experience

  3. Very good computer skills including proficiency in Oracle, Word, Excel and Powerpoint

  4. Good team player and excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  5. Demonstrate competences for accuracy, attention to detail, integrity and update knowledge in Accountancy.

  6. Ability to communicate and write effectively.
