We're looking for a Senior Python/Django Developer to build and scale production-grade backend systems for modern e-commerce platforms. This role focuses heavily on Django REST Framework, subscription billing, and third-party service integrations, supporting both web and mobile clients.

You'll be working on complex, real-world systems—payments, billing lifecycles, background jobs, and integrations—where clean architecture, reliability, and test coverage truly matter.

What You'll Do

  • Architect and implement RESTful APIs using Django REST Framework
  • Build robust subscription billing systems, including lifecycle state management, grace periods, and automated retry logic
  • Integrate Stripe (Payment Intents, Subscriptions, webhooks, recurring billing)
  • Implement and maintain third-party service integrations, including:
  • Helpdesk systems
  • Tax calculation services
  • Shipping providers
  • Transactional email services
  • Design shopping cart and checkout flows, including:
  • Guest-to-user account merging
  • Coupon and discount systems
  • Build device / asset registration systems that link hardware serial numbers to customer accounts
  • Implement Celery background jobs for billing automation, notifications, and scheduled maintenance
  • Write comprehensive unit and integration tests, including mocking external services
  • Collaborate on system design, scalability decisions, and API documentation

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of Python development experience
  • 3+ years of Django / Django REST Framework in production environments
  • Hands-on experience with Stripe:
  • Payment Intents
  • Subscriptions
  • Webhooks
  • Experience with background job systems (Celery + Celery Beat)
  • Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and Redis
  • Experience with JWT-based authentication
  • Familiarity with S3 or cloud storage for media handling
  • Comfortable with Docker-based workflows
  • Proven ability to write clean, testable, and well-documented code

Nice to Have (Strong Plus)

  • Helpdesk integrations (Zendesk or similar)
  • Tax service integrations (TaxJar, Avalara)
  • Shipping APIs (EasyPost, ShipStation)
  • Transactional email services (SendGrid, AWS SES)
  • Experience building backends for mobile apps (iOS / Android clients)
  • Familiarity with:
  • Soft-delete patterns
  • UUID primary keys
  • Multi-tenant architecture considerations
