What is the job?

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for gathering and managing payroll inputs, processing payroll, coordinating reporting, supporting post-payroll tasks, and fostering effective collaboration between Payroll, Business Partners, and Finance. The role is instrumental in maintaining data integrity across key platforms such as Dayforce, Sequoia, and the company's benefits systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing across Canada, UK, US, Australia, and New Zealand, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery
  • Maintain employee records and process updates (new hires, terminations, salary changes, bonuses, and leave data) in Dayforce and Sequoia
  • Prepare payroll reports for Finance, Business Partners, and stakeholders; support statutory and internal reporting requirements
  • Reconcile payroll tax filings, remittances, and third-party payments (tax authorities, pensions, garnishments)
  • Administer employee benefits and retirement programs, including enrollments, changes, invoices, and issue resolution with providers
  • Support audits, respond to payroll inquiries, and assist with ad hoc payroll-related projects and tasks

Qualifications:

Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field

  • At least 3 years of hands-on payroll experience with knowledge of compliance in Canada, UK, US, Australia, or New Zealand
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, pivot tables, data validation) and payroll/HRIS systems; Ceridian Dayforce experience preferred
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage sensitive data with confidentiality
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English for working with vendors, Finance, and Compensation & Benefits teams
  • Payroll certification (e.g., PCP, CIPP, FPC, CPP) and prior multi-country or global payroll experience are a plus
