Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Bookkeeper for a long-term, full-time remote role. This fast-paced, deadline-driven position requires independence, precision, and a proactive approach. The ideal candidate will manage full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple clients, oversee junior bookkeepers, and maintain accurate financial records across various accounting systems.

Job Highlights

  • Monthly Rate: 72,000
  • Number of Paid Hours Per Week: 40 hours
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm EST (includes 1-hour unpaid break)
  • Work Arrangement: Work from home
  • Contract: Independent Contractor
  • Side Note: Since this is a permanent work-from-home position and the arrangement is that of an "Independent Contractor," the selected candidate must have their own computer and internet connection. They will handle their own benefits and taxes. The professional fees are on hourly rates and the rate depends on your performance in the application process.

Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle bookkeeping for 10–20 businesses, including multi-entity clients
  • Oversee multiple client files, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency
  • Review work of junior bookkeepers, providing guidance and quality control
  • Handle month-end and year-end bookkeeping, including GST/HST filings
  • Manage client onboarding and bookkeeping file setup, catch-up, and clean-up
  • Document bookkeeping files clearly for efficient handoff to team members
  • Train and support junior bookkeepers and assist with complex client files
  • Maintain accurate records using QuickBooks Online (QBO) and DEXT
  • Prepare journal entries, bank reconciliations, and financial reports ensuring CRA compliance
  • Handle accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR)
  • Generate accurate monthly financial reports in a timely manner
  • Document and improve internal processes
  • Communicate professionally with clients as a trusted point of contact
  • Collaborate with the team to contribute to a positive remote work culture

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of bookkeeping experience in a firm (QBO required)
  • Strong understanding of finance and accounting principles
  • Expertise in AP, AR, reconciliations, and monthly close
  • Experience filing sales tax returns
  • Proficiency in cloud accounting tools (QBO, DEXT, Plooto)
  • Comfortable using task management tools (ClickUp, Karbon) and CRM tools (HubSpot, Zendesk)
  • Highly organized, dependable, proactive, and deadline-driven
  • Reliable high-speed internet and a dedicated, quiet home workspace
