Accounting Manager

The Accounting Manager oversees day-to-day accounting operations, statutory and tax compliance in the Philippines, and timely, accurate financial reporting. The role ensures strong internal controls, supports audits, drives process improvements, and partners with business leaders on financial insights. This manager supervises a small-to-midsize team and works closely with cross-functional partners (HR/Payroll, Legal, Procurement, Operations, and external auditors/consultants).
Key Responsibilities
1) General Ledger & Period Close
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close for the Philippine entity/entities.
- Prepare/review journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and reclassifications.
- Maintain account reconciliations (cash, AR/AP, FA, inventory, intercompany, taxes).
- Ensure accurate chart of accounts and adherence to accounting policies.
- Deliver close per target timeline (e.g., T+5 business days), with clear variance analyses.
2) Financial Reporting & Analytics
- Produce management reports (P&L, BS, CF), budget vs. actuals, KPIs, and commentary.
- Support consolidation (local entity to group) and intercompany eliminations.
- Apply IFRS/PH GAAP and company policies; document judgments and estimates.
- Create dashboards to track trends (revenue, margins, OPEX, cash, working capital).
3) Tax & Regulatory Compliance (Philippines)
- Ensure timely/accurate filings and payments for:
- BIR returns (e.g., VAT, EWT/FWT, income tax, quarterly/annual, Alphalists, 2307/2306).
- Local government permits/renewals (mayors' permits, business taxes), SEC AFS/GIS.
- Statutory contributions (SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG/HDMF) in coordination with Payroll/HR.
- Manage eFPS/eBIRForms submissions; maintain proof of filings and compliance calendar.
- Coordinate with tax advisors on rulings, assessments, and optimization within legal bounds.
- Monitor changes in regulations (e.g., e-invoicing/EIS for covered taxpayers, PEZA/BOI rules) and update processes/controls accordingly.
4) Payables, Receivables & Treasury
- Oversee AP (3-way match, vendor onboarding, 2307 certificates) and payment runs.
- Oversee AR (billing accuracy, collections, official receipts, DSO) and credit controls.
- Manage cash flow forecasts, bank reconciliations, and banking relationships.
- Safeguard assets via approval matrices, segregation of duties, and payment controls.
5) Payroll & Employee Reimbursements
- Partner with HR/Payroll to validate payroll inputs, taxes, and statutory deductions.
- Review payroll journals, employee advances/liquidations, and expense claims policy.
- Ensure compliance with DOLE standards (e.g., holidays, overtime differentials as applicable) and internal policies.
6) Audit, Risk & Controls
- Lead annual external audit; prepare audit schedules and address findings promptly.
- Conduct periodic internal control reviews (P2P, O2C, R2R, inventory/FA) and remediate gaps.
- Maintain compliant document retention, evidence trails, and SOPs/desk manuals.
7) Systems, Data & Process Improvement
- Serve as process owner for ERP/accounting tools (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, QuickBooks).
- Drive automation (bank feeds, OCR, e-invoicing, analytics) and continuous improvement.
- Establish SLAs, KPIs, and close calendars; standardize across entities where applicable.
8) People Leadership
- Recruit, onboard, and develop team members; conduct coaching and performance reviews.
- Foster a culture of accountability, integrity, and service to the business.
- Coordinate workload across month-end peaks and audits.
Qualifications
- Education: BS Accountancy or related field; CPA [required/preferred].
- Experience: 5–8+ years in accounting, with 2–3+ years in a supervisory/lead role.
- Technical: Strong knowledge of PH tax and regulatory compliance; working knowledge of IFRS/PH GAAP; experience with audits and consolidations.
- Tools: Advanced Excel/Sheets; experience with ERP (e.g., SAP/Oracle/NetSuite) and BI/reporting tools.
- Soft Skills: Analytical, detail-oriented, organized; strong stakeholder communication; ability to manage deadlines and multiple priorities.
- Nice to Have: Shared services/BPO exposure; PEZA/BOI familiarity; e-invoicing/EIS; multi-entity or regional consolidation; familiarity with US GAAP for cross-border groups.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Close timeliness (e.g., T+5 business days) and accuracy.
- On-time, error-free statutory/tax filings and payments.
- Audit results (number/severity of findings) and remediation timeliness.
- Reconciliation completeness and aging of unreconciled items.
- Working capital metrics (DSO, DPO, inventory turns) and cash forecasting accuracy.
- Process SLAs for AP/AR, vendor/customer satisfaction, and query turnaround.
- Team engagement, retention, and development progress.
