About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Draftsman to join Mason Balustrade remotely from the Philippines. This role is ideal for a technically proficient individual with experience in CAD drafting for construction or metal fabrication projects. The successful candidate will support the design and documentation needs of the business, preparing shop drawings, fabrication sheets, and layout plans to ensure precise project execution. Reporting to the Design Engineer, this role is integral to the smooth operation of the business and will involve regular coordination with the onshore team.

The role requires strong 3D CAD skills using Solid Edge 2019, with the ability to create and manage full assemblies, sheet metal components, and manufacturing-ready documentation. The ideal candidate will be experienced in preparing export formats (STEP, IGES, DXF), interpreting technical drawings, creating material cutting lists, and documenting fabrication requirements such as folding, welding, and setout drawings. Familiarity with architectural drawings, site work documentation, and data tracking via Microsoft Excel is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and update 3D CAD models using Solid Edge 2019, including assemblies, sheet metal parts, and flat patterns.
• Export files in required formats including STEP, DXF, IGES, and Solid Edge draft files.
• Use company-provided drafting templates to ensure drawing consistency and standardisation.
• Interpret technical drawings and client markups to update or generate parts, assemblies, and detailed fabrication drawings.
• Use Microsoft Excel to track drawing numbers and interpret tabulated data to generate associated CAD files.
• Create accurate and fully detailed fabrication drawings for:
• Site setout
• Outsourcing (laser/turret punching, folding)
• Welding/fabrication
• Create and maintain cutting lists for raw materials, sheet metal, and long-length parts.
• Interpret and extract relevant data from architectural floor plans, elevations, and cross-sections using PDF viewer tools.
• Organise and maintain a revision-controlled digital archive of drawings and exported files.
• Specify materials and construction methods appropriate for the manufacturing process.
• Collaborate with the Director to break down large 3D models into manufacturable drawings with all relevant specifications.

Mandatory Criteria

• Experience working as an Independent Contractor for an Australian, American or similar client.
• Diploma or degree in Drafting, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in drafting roles, preferably within the construction or metal fabrication sector.
• Proficiency in Solid Edge 2019 for 3D modelling, assemblies, and sheet metal parts. Experience with exporting STEP, IGES, DXF formats required. Experience with AutoCAD is a plus.
• Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes and the ability to create flat pattern drawings suitable for CNC manufacturing.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and document revisions based on architectural or client-provided drawings
• Familiarity with working from architectural plans and understanding of basic construction terms.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in producing technical drawings.
• Experience working with international clients, preferably Australian.
• High level of English proficiency, particularly in reading and writing technical documents.
• Reliable internet connection and suitable home office set-up.

Nice-to-Haves

• Exposure to Australian building standards and codes (especially AS1170, AS1288, AS1657).
• Experience with fencing and balustrade products, materials, and construction methods.
• Experience working with drafting templates and adhering to internal documentation standards.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Excel for managing parts lists and drawing registers.
• Experience producing cutting lists for fabrication and site installation.
• Knowledge of structural CAD programs or rendering tools such as SketchUp or Revit.
• Familiarity with job management or document control software such as Nexvia, Procore, Acconex or Buildertrend.
• Previous experience working with remote teams or as a virtual contractor.

Compensation Package

This role is for a long-term, full-time Independent Contractor with the following additional perks:

• Philippine Regular Holidays: 100% pay if not worked; 200% pay if worked.
• Philippine Special Non-Working Holidays: Additional 30% pay if worked.
• Vacation Leave: 12 days per year, granted upon successful completion of the probation period.
• Sick Leave: 6 days per year, available annually.
• Health Insurance Allowance: ₱2,500 per month provided toward family health insurance after the probation period.
• Flexible Work Environment: Fully remote, Monday to Friday, aligned with Australian business hours.

Mason Balustrade is based in Melbourne, Australia, thus the work hours will follow Melbourne time (GMT +10) with some flexibility.

• 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM Melbourne time
• (5:00 AM to 1:30 PM PH time during Australian winter, and 4:00 AM to 12:30 PM PH time during Australian summer)
