The Role

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll work directly with our most strategic customers to deliver tailored technical solutions, integrate Tolstoy into their systems, and ensure they fully leverage our platform for long-term success.

Key ResponsibilitiesClient-Facing Engineering & Support

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for assigned clients during onboarding, implementation, and ongoing optimization
  • Own client communications including technical discovery calls, solution design workshops, and status meetings
  • Lead regular check-ins and Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) to share technical updates, best practices, and recommendations
  • Understand client business goals and translate them into scalable, customized technical solutions

Custom Implementation & Development

  • Build, customize, and optimize client integrations (Shopify and non-Shopify platforms) using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and APIs
  • Configure and validate tracking and analytics for accurate performance reporting
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues with minimal client disruption
  • Continuously enhance site layout, performance, and cross-device compatibility

Product & Innovation Advocacy

  • Promote adoption of Tolstoy's current and upcoming features, ensuring clients get maximum value
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering to relay client feedback and influence the product roadmap
  • Help define workflows for Tolstoy's AI-powered tools, driving innovation in customer-facing use cases

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Customer Success, Marketing, and Sales teams to align on goals, deliverables, and timelines
  • Assist in creating technical documentation, best practices, and client-facing training materials

Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor key performance metrics and usage data to uncover optimization opportunities
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies, e-commerce trends, and platform updates to maintain technical excellence

Who You Are

  • A solutions-oriented engineer with excellent communication skills and the confidence to lead client calls, presentations, and technical workshops
  • Highly skilled in front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) with experience integrating into e-commerce platforms — Shopify experience is a plus
  • Capable of translating complex technical needs into clear, actionable plans for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and focused on delivering measurable outcomes
  • Passionate about leveraging AI-powered tools to drive customer success and innovation
