What You'll Be Doing

As a Bookkeeper, you will report to a UK based manager and manage day-to-day books, keep ledgers accurate and up to date, prepare VAT returns, and deliver clean month-end packs that clients can trust for decision-making. Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain sales/purchase ledgers: posting invoices, bills, credit notes, and journals
  • Perform bank/credit card reconciliations and resolve unmatched items
  • Manage AP/AR: supplier statements, payment runs, customer chasing (light credit control)
  • Prepare VAT returns (MTD compliant), VAT reconciliations, and submission packs
  • Process expenses (Dext/Hubdoc), petty cash, and mileage logs
  • Support month-end: accruals/prepayments, fixed asset registers, and trial balance review
  • Produce management bookkeeping schedules and working papers with audit trail
  • Handle basic payroll inputs and journals (if required) and coordinate with payroll teams
  • Respond to client queries within SLAs and document actions in the practice system

What You'll Bring

  • 2+ years' UK-focused bookkeeping experience (in practice or multi-client environment)
  • Solid grasp of double-entry, UK VAT rules, and Making Tax Digital (MTD)
  • Proficiency with Xero (preferred) and/or QuickBooks Online; strong Excel skills
  • Experience with Dext/Hubdoc, ApprovalMax, Pleo/Soldo, or similar cloud tools

Nice to have:

  • AAT qualification, CIS awareness, and basic UK GAAP familiarity
