Senior AI Developer

Role Overview

This is a hands-on IC role focused on building and deploying AI-driven features across the Carello mobile app and web platform. Your primary responsibility is to deliver high-quality AI models, pipelines, and integrations that enhance the user experience and operational efficiency.

Ideal for someone who enjoys building, coding, experimenting, deploying, and directly owning technical results.

Key Responsibilities (Individual Contributor)

As a hands-on AI Developer, you will:

AI/ML Development

• Design, build, and deploy machine-learning models for core e-commerce functions, including:

• Intelligent Search and Ranking: Enhancing search relevance, result ranking, and query understanding.

• Product Recommendations: Developing personalized engines (collaborative filtering, deep learning models) for discovery.

• Customer Lifecycle & Prediction: Modeling user behavior (segmentation, churn, LTV) and predictive restocking/inventory optimization.

• Smart Logistics Optimization: Developing models for dynamic routing, delivery slot management, and high-accuracy demand forecasting.

• Conversational AI: Building and maintaining AI Chatbots and virtual assistants for customer support and seamless shopping assistance.

• Dynamic pricing, promotions, and personalization.

• Fraud and risk detection systems.

Data Engineering & Pipelines

• Implement robust data pipelines and feature stores for model training and real-time inference.

• Ensure data quality, preprocessing, transformation, and scalability across the ML ecosystem.

Integration with App & Backend

• Deploy ML m odels into production using performant APIs or microservices.

• Ensure models meet strict performance metrics (latency, accuracy, and scalability) within the platform.

Experimentation & Improvements

• Design and run A/B tests to measure model impact (e.g., conversion rate, average basket size, user retention).

• Continuously refine and improve existing models based on new data and observed user behavior.

Technical Ownership (IC Responsibilities)

• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.

• Own assigned AI initiatives fully — from initial concept and research to production deployment and monitoring.

• Participate in architectural discussions but maintain a primarily hands-on role in implementation.

• Work independently while syncing closely with cross-functional teams (Product, Data, Backend) during sprints.

Minimum Qualifications

• 4–6+ years of professional experience in AI/ML engineering or applied machine learning roles.

• Strong command of Python, fundamental ML libraries (PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, XGBoost).

• Proven experience deploying ML models to production environments (REST APIs, containers, cloud).

• Strong SQL/NoSQL experience and ability to work effectively with large, complex datasets.

• Experience building sophisticated recommender systems, search ranking, or retail/e-commerce ML applications.

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) and MLOps tooling.

• Familiarity with data pipelines, CI/CD for ML, and automated monitoring/retraining workflows.

• Strong analytical mindset and ability to work independently in a remote setup.

• Excellent written and spoken English communication.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Direct experience working on large-scale e-commerce or grocery apps (e.g., SM Malls Online, Robinsons, GrabMart, Shopee, Lazada, etc.).

• Experience with large-scale marketplaces or complex logistics-related ML.

• Experience building and deploying Conversational AI or Chatbot systems.

• Experience building AI features optimized for mobile applications.
